Look at your lipstick, or your favorite brand of shampoo, was it tested on animals? Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to boycott your favorite name brand because they decided to use it on animals before they try it on us. That's not what I'm saying at all. But, if you hear all the cruel things that they do to those defensless creatures - maybe the same breed of dog you have as a pet - you might consder doing just that.
But, scientists don't only test cosmetic subtances on animals, they test for studies too. When scientists want to study the sensitivity of the eye, they inject a liquid, flake, granule, or powdered substance into the eyes of albino rabits. With no pain killers, the rabits have to wait 72 hours before chekcking how much damage was done to the eye tissue, the tests continue after that. These tests can last for more than 21 days. During that time period, the scientists look for swollen eyelids, inflamed irises, ulceration, bleeding, massive deterioration, and blindness by keeping the rabits' eyes open by using clips. Many of the rabits break their necks while trying to escape. After these tests are complete, the scientists may just kkill and dispose of them as if they were garbage, or use them in further tests.
The scientists are also expirementing with ways to kill the animals. By using Acute Toxicity Tests, they inject a substance into the animals' stomach through tubes. The poison also could be injected under the skin or into a vain. Experimenters observe the animals' reactions, which can include convulsions, labored breathing, diarrhea, constipation, emaciation, skin eruptions, abnormal posture, and bleeding from the eyes, nose, or mouth.
Now, some of you are probably thinking, "How are we supposed to know if a product will harm us or not if it hasn't been tested on animals." There are people who volunteer to try a knew product. They sit there, applky the makeup, use the hairspray, shampoo, or whatever they're trying, and they get paid a couple houndred dollars. There is no law that requires the item to be tested, and alot of companikes don't test their product on animals. But, if a product is not tested by either a human or animal, the company is required to put a warning label onn their product. By doing that, do you think that they would sell too many items? Of course not. So they would rather put an innocent animal's life at risk, than lose some money.
